I use to surf a lot, and Sabang beach in Baler, Aurora in the Philippines has always been my getaway. Back in the old days, it’s all rough road and it takes 8 hours of travel to even get there if you’re coming from the city. It was a secret place for surfers and tourists loves the ‘top load.’ Now the roads are paved, there is the JOY bus, signs of the place being a tourist destination with loads of spots to visit. The famous ‘I Love Baler’ at the Plaza, the Ditumabo falls and the Great Balete tree. But this is not about Baler. Let me tell you about Dinadiawan, the place dubbed as the Bora in Aurora, and to tell you frankly, with how Boracay’s situation is right now, it would pale next to Dinadiawan. The reason why it is hidden is because of the availability of transportation. Dinadiawan is almost the last town along the shore line of Dipaculao and the trip is about 3 to 4 hours more after Baler which is painstakingly already 5 to 6 hours from Manila, not unless you wanna fly to Baler which would be just about an hour to get there but flights are very limited and you would still need to get to another bus or van to get to Dinadiawan. There is only one bus line that gets you there directly, the Genesis terminal in Cubao to Casiguran which would pass Dinadiawan and it only has 2 trips in a day.
If you’re out for a tan and a fantastic view then it is all worth it. You can even pass Ampere beach and find scenic rock formations, maybe take a picture or two. Dipaculao has a shingle shore line so to find hot spots with smooth white sands like Bgy. Dinadiawan is a gem. The beach itself is great but since it borders the Pacific, the riptides are making some parts of the shoreline steep but there are no surf worthy waves. So you’ll never find any surfers here.
Budget for transportation can cost around 800-1K depending on how you’d like to travel. If you don’t mind the stops then it’s cheaper and of course it’s more expensive with the JOY bus. Room rates vary too. Some private resorts have their own entrance ranging from Php 100-200 which is only good for a whole day swim, if you are to stay overnight, then room rates can be from Php 2300 – 4000. Room is air conditioned and is good for at least 5 person. Food is cheap, your 1k can feed 8 people, it’s definitely cheaper compared to Baler. The sea foods are always fresh.
And yes, you are seeing it right, the picture was taken during a long weekend in the middle of the day, the place is isolated! You might catch a few bathing in the sun but you almost have the place to yourself.
Relax and have a beer here. It sure was an experience for me. You guys should visit too!
